Allergy Shots (Allergy Immunotherapy)

Immunotherapy, or allergy shots, are the most effective treatment for allergies.   Avoidance measures can reduce triggers and medications can reduce symptoms, but allergy shots change the way your immune system recognizes your allergens to help reduce symptoms.

Allergy shots can treat allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, and eczema (skin allergies).   Medications may be adequate for many allergy sufferers, but allergy shots may be a good option if medications are no longer effective enough.

Allergy shots are prescribed based on your specific testing and involve small injections of allergens initially once or twice a week and then about every month.
